Taipo Hut to North Mavora Lake – 28kms
Total – 1044kms
The track continued down open country and crossed the Mararoa River twice on swing bridges. There were more boggy areas and pushing through some really long tussock that was over my head just before Boundary Hut. I joined a 4wd track that people use to come and fish the rivers and lakes. I followed it 6kms to Careys Hut where North Mavora Lake came into view and then continued another 10kms around the side of it to the campsite at the south end. The last few kms were walking the beach.
The campsite is basic but quite big. It has long drop toilets, water taps and bbq tables dotted all around the place. There are a few campervans here. I found myself a nice spot sheltered from the wind with a table. I sat there for the rest of the afternoon looking down over the lake.
